Gravel bikes

In recent years the term "Gravel" has grown like wildfire and is gaining more and more popularity, but what does it mean and what is a gravel bike?

The term borrowed from English means gravel, and refers to the type of terrain to which its use is oriented.

The concept of the gravel bike therefore arose from the need to go fast over more difficult terrain, where a road bike has little to do. In addition, their shape, resistance and geometry have also been adapted to make them optimal on this terrain, so they will also be more comfortable.

The best gravel bikes, how are they different?

In general, the main differences of gravel bikes with respect to road bikes are in their tires with more ball and stud to improve grip and cushioning, smaller and more agile angles, longer wheelbase to gain stability and a handlebar adapted to make the routes more comfortable.

Uses and types of Gravel Bikes

Gravel bikes are therefore hybrid bikes, which make them one of the most versatile options for training or competing on any type of road, without forgetting that they are more comfortable and you can do long routes with them.

Another very common use of gravel bikes is “bikepacking”, as they have all these previous characteristics, they are optimal for putting panniers, bags and cycling or traveling with them. Bikepacking is a term adopted from English, which could be literally translated as “bike packs”, but it refers to the use of bags on the frame.
